Position Summary
This posting is for the State of Hawaiʻi, Department of Health, Environmental Management Division. The role is located in Waipahu to Aiea on the Island of Oahu.
Salary: $9,794 per month, commensurate with training and experience.
Exempt, temporary, full‑time, non‑civil‑service appointment.
Position purpose: support implementation of EPA grant awards and environmental recovery projects, including wastewater engineering support, program development, and integration of One Water strategies.
ResponsibilitiesConduct comprehensive wastewater engineering support in design, construction, and operations review and approvals for the WWB. Develop and implement strategies to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the review process, evaluate proposed wastewater applications and detailed Operation and Maintenance manuals, and provide technical assistance and guidance to the WWB team for timely approvals. Perform program development and technical support for branch obligations, objectives, and goals, including conversion of cesspools, recycled/reuse water, integration of One Water strategies, and addressing emerging contaminants.
EducationGraduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
ExperienceFive (5) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience, including at least one (1) year in a capacity equivalent to the Engineer (Environmental) V level.
Substitution AllowedA master’s degree may be substituted for one (1) year of engineering experience.
LicenseA valid professional engineer license in the State of Hawaiʻi is required. A valid driver’s license is preferred; if not, the candidate must be able to travel to off‑site locations as needed.
Legal Authorization to WorkThe State of Hawaiʻi requires that all persons seeking employment with the government are citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Application ScheduleThis position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule after six months of credible service and upon supervisor approval. The appointment is at will and is temporary in nature.
