The Department of Environmental Services (ENV), Office of Administrative Support, is looking for a senior Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst to join their team located in Kapolei. This position researches, analyzes, designs and produces the most difficult and complex thematic maps and applications and participates in the design and maintenance of the GIS database.
What You Will Do- Database and Data Management:
Co‑manage the design, maintenance and setting standards for ENV GIS databases; co‑manage the development GIS metadata and digitization plan; coordinate and insure GIS data is being created and updated in a systematic process. - Application Development and Management:
Analyze, design, produce and maintain a variety of complex GIS projects and applications and web maps from beginning to completion. - End User Support:
Assist in identifying users requirements for geospatial information, analysis and interfaces; provide GIS technical training and support.
- Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies.
Actual salary will be commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval.

Education RequirementEquivalent to graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in physical or natural science, geography, engineering, planning, computer science or a related field.

Experience RequirementThree years of progressively responsible experience in using GIS software in the design and production of thematic maps and other applications.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of geography as it applies to GIS; concepts and principles of GIS; mapping, cartography, surveying and photogrammetry; data and word processing; statistics; GIS software packages; computer languages; GIS and relational database management concepts and theories; operations, characteristics and capabilities of various types of GIS computer and peripheral equipment; research methods and techniques; and the ability to analyze, correlate and evaluate thematic map data and records;
create GIS computer programs to enter, process and create maps, graphics and reports; manage the preparation and operation of GIS projects; maintain effective working relationships with others; formulate ideas and present them clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Used GIS, work management, and other software products to support and produce user interfaces to GIS and related databases.
License RequirementPossession of a valid appropriate driver’s license (Type 3/automobile) is required. The current vacancy does not require a valid driver’s license.
