Position Overview
Soil & Material Testing Technician (I–IV) in the Department of Design and Construction, Civil Division, Honolulu. Two entry‑level positions (I & II) require training in routine standardized soil and construction material tests for construction suitability.
Responsibilities- Assist in laboratory testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt according to industry standards.
- Prepare test reports, documentation, and chain‑of‑custody records.
- Support field testing to provide data for in‑situ site conditions, contributing to quality assurance and project acceptance.
- Maintain laboratory facilities and equipment.
- Operate a motor vehicle to travel between offices, job, and field sites.
- Exposure to chemicals, lifting and carrying heavy objects (up to 50 lb), and traversing rough, exposed terrain.
- Opportunity to advance through the Soil & Material Testing Technician career ladder with satisfactory experience and demonstration of applicable knowledge.
- U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident alien, or non‑citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
- High‑school diploma or equivalent; relevant work experience may substitute for education.
- At least two years of general work experience.
- Valid driver's license.
