Job Purpose
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Counselor provides leadership, guidance, and support services to students enrolled in Career and Technical Education programs. The CTE Counselor assists students in identifying career interests and aptitudes, selecting appropriate career pathways, developing postsecondary and workforce readiness plans, and successfully completing CTE programs. The counselor works collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, business and industry partners, and postsecondary institutions to promote student achievement, career awareness, workforce development, recruitment, retention, and program success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide individual and group counseling services related to academic, career, technical, and personal/social development.
- Assist students in identifying career interests, aptitudes, and educational goals.
- Coordinate recruitment and retention efforts for Career and Technical Education programs.
- Collaborate with academic counselors, special education personnel, teachers, and administrators to support student success.
- Assist students with career planning, postsecondary education opportunities, industry certifications, and workforce readiness.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local business and industry representatives.
- Coordinate activities that promote career awareness and exploration.
- Assist with student placement, follow up, and program accountability measures.
- Maintain records, reports, and documentation required by the Mississippi Department of Education and the district.
- Participate in professional development activities related to counseling and Career and Technical Education.
- Assist in dropout prevention initiatives and student intervention efforts.
- Support emergency response and crisis management procedures as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CTE Director or Superintendent.
- Holds or is eligible to obtain a valid Mississippi Educator License with the appropriate school counselor endorsement as required by the Mississippi Department of Education.
- Meets all certification and licensure requirements established by the Mississippi Department of Education for a school counselor.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Career and Technical Education programs, career pathways, workforce development initiatives, and postsecondary opportunities.
- Possesses strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, business and industry partners, and community stakeholders.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Salary, benefits, and work year shall be established by the Lauderdale County School District Board of Education in accordance with district policy and applicable state law.
