Job Description

HPC Computational Scientist role within the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) at GDIT’s Stennis, MS site. The scientist will collaborate with DoD scientists and engineers to provide advanced HPC solutions, deliver user support, and drive technological innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Engage with the HPC community to understand current and future needs and stay updated on new technology solutions and optimizations.
  • Explore and innovate new technologies and capabilities relevant to HPC computing and collaborate with technical teams for future implementation.
  • Work closely with team members and the Team Lead to enhance and expand fundamental HPC capabilities and complete technical projects.
  • Support user productivity enhancement and training, including SME advice for new initiatives, ongoing projects, and support needs.
  • Attend or lead meetings and discussions with customers to troubleshoot technical problems and propose continuous improvement.
  • Occasionally present to senior leadership on HPC best practices, emerging cloud technologies, AI/ML advances, and solutions to challenging technical issues.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Physics, or related field;
    Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience; at least 2 years of HPC experience.
  • Proficiency with HPC concepts and services (file systems, compilers, MPI, OpenMP, profiling tools).
  • Programming experience in Python, C, C++, or similar languages.
  • US citizen eligible for Secret clearance.
  • Strong communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience analyzing solutions, understanding system integration challenges, and identifying technology gaps.
  • Background in computational science such as structural mechanics, electromagnetics, acoustics, or weather codes is a plus.
Work Details
  • Regular full‑time position (40 hours per week).
  • Hybrid work option with occasional travel (less than 10%).
