Job Overview

This is advanced vocational-level specialized trades work involving technical responsibility for complex electrical or computer-controlled building and plant systems. Work includes design, redesign, installation, replacement, configuration, programming, integration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of specialized systems.

The incumbent functions as a lead worker or technical resource for complex specialized trades projects and may provide direction, training, work assignment coordination, project coordination, inventory monitoring, and contractor coordination. Work requires advanced trade knowledge, technical judgment, problem‑solving ability, and the ability to coordinate work safely and effectively.

Essential functions include performing advanced specialized trades work; designing, redesigning, installing, replacing, configuring, programming, integrating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical or computer‑controlled building and plant systems; serving as a technical resource for complex systems work; coordinating projects and work assignments; leading, training, and mentoring lower‑level employees; reviewing and signing off on completed work; requisitioning materials and supplies; monitoring inventory; coordinating with inspectors, utility representatives, contractors, vendors, and agency staff;

assisting with contractor specifications, bid recommendations, and work monitoring; following safety procedures; maintaining accurate records; and performing related specialized trades duties as assigned.

Typically requires completion of an apprenticeship program in the trade area and 2–4 years of experience.
