The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Treatment Plant Operator I to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Utilities

The Treatment Plant Operator I in Surface Water earns a competitive hourly salary of $21.83-$23.63/ based on experience and qualifications. There is also certification pay for licenses higher than required for the position. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents.

- Grade C License - $2,500
- Grade B License - $3,500

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS THE TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR I - Surface Water- Under general supervision of a SWTP Operator II, this position is responsible for daily inspection, operation, and monitoring of raw water intake, coagulant feed systems, rapid mix, flocculation, sedimentation, sludge system, filtration and disinfection processes.
- Performs technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility including routine preventative maintenance of all equipment.
- Maintains plant grounds and buildings including cleaning plant process areas.
A SWTP Operator I may reasonably expect to progress to SWTP Operator II with training, experience, and continued demonstration of satisfactory job performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Participates in routine water quality analysis for each stage of the treatment process and accurately records data on standard forms. Under supervision, performs laboratory testing which includes but is not limited to turbidity, chlorine residual, pH, and alkalinity.
- Operates mechanical equipment including pumps and motors, chemical feed pumps and systems, air compressors, belt press, and valves; operates hand and power tools. Assists mechanics in repairs.
- Operates chlorination equipment; performs maintenance on chlorine system including chemical piping system; participates in calibration of chemical feed equipment. Changes chlorine containers when necessary.
- Assists with the starting and stopping of plant operations.
- Maintains operational logs and records.
- Performs daily rounds as assigned by the PCS or SWTP Operator II.
- Monitors and interprets instrumentation and control systems, evaluates data, and responds to routine alarm conditions to make necessary routine process or equipment adjustments based on written and verbal guidelines.
