Location:
Pearland, Full Time – Days, Comprehensive Care Center.
At Houston Methodist, the Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) position evaluates and develops comprehensive therapy plans for a broad range of hand and upper extremity diagnoses and acuities. The CHT provides education to patients, families, and caregivers, collaborates with health‑care professionals, and delivers direct patient care while delegating to occupational or physical therapy assistants and technicians.
The role also serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced therapists, assistants, technicians, and students, and may act as a clinical instructor.
Qualifications- Graduate of a program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below.
- Completion of a Houston Methodist or comparable occupational or physical therapy residency program, or three years of experience as a physical or occupational therapist.
- Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy state license.
- BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
- CHT – Certified Hand Therapist (HTCC) credential.
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary for job functions.
- Excellent communication skills and a customer‑service focus.
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills.
- Proficient computer knowledge and ability to operate multiple rehabilitation systems.
- Safe and competent performance of assigned duties as determined by ongoing assessments.
- Ability to work independently, handle challenging procedures, and apply sound clinical judgment.
- Professional and technical competence in selecting, evaluating, and utilizing treatment plans.
- Promote a positive, team‑focused work environment and communicate essential patient information.
- Serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource for less experienced hand therapists.
- Teach and guide therapists, assistants, and support staff; assist in clinical rotations and residency programs.
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans for hand and upper extremity patients.
- Educate patients and caregivers; serve as a resource for best therapy practices.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team on treatment plan modifications, progress, and discharge planning.
- Monitor progress, modify goals and plans, identify complications, and proactively address them.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and contribute to departmental and hospital quality targets.
- Oversee care delivered by assistants and technicians, ensuring quality and patient safety.
- Use resources efficiently, manage patient load, and adhere to labor standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation and enter charges appropriately.
- Participate in departmental projects, community teaching, and hospital initiatives.
- Assist higher‑level therapists with program development and clinical competencies.
- Pursue continuing development as a Certified Hand Therapist.
