The Planning Manager earns a competitive salary of $85,000.00 to $ based on experience and qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. Job SummaryThe purpose of this job within the organization is to oversee the general administration of the planning programs for the division within the Community Development department. This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Essential Functions- Oversee the general administration of the planning programs for the division.
- Supervise the planning, preparation, and submission of division reports.
- Manages the development and administration of the division's budget to include estimating staffing, equipment, and supply needs.
- Review of invoices and purchase orders. Monitor expenditures and associated contracts.
- Prepares agenda items and makes presentations for public hearings.
- Prepares studies, reports, plans, and recommendations for the Director and presents before City Council, Boards, Commissions, and other City officials on planning‑related matters.
- Assist with customer service issues, responding to inquiries, and coordinating with other departments.
- Ensures accuracy of application processing.
- Interviews, selects, supervises, develops, and counsels personnel according to established City policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Prepares written reports and presentations.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Requires a Bachelor's Degree in planning, architecture, public administration or closely related field.
- Requires six years planning or closely related experience.
- Valid Texas Driver's License (or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
- Certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
- Valid Class C Texas Driver's License is required.
