The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Planning Manager to improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Community Development division.

The Planning Manager earns a competitive salary of $85,000.00 to $ based on experience and qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees'

Job Summary

The purpose of this job within the organization is to oversee the general administration of the planning programs for the division within the Community Development department. This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee the general administration of the planning programs for the division.
  • Supervise the planning, preparation, and submission of division reports.
  • Manages the development and administration of the division's budget to include estimating staffing, equipment, and supply needs.
  • Review invoices and purchase orders; monitor expenditures and associated contracts.
  • Prepare agenda items and make presentations for public hearings.
  • Prepare studies, reports, plans, and recommendations for the Director, and present before City Council, Boards, Commissions, and other City officials on planning-related matters.
Additional Duties
  • Assist with customer service issues, responding to inquiries, and coordinating with other departments.
  • Ensure accuracy of application processing.
  • Interview, select, supervise, develop, and counsel personnel according to established City policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in planning, architecture, public administration, or a closely related field.
  • Requires six years of planning or closely related experience.
Special Certifications And Licenses
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
  • Certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver's License is required.
