Fleet Superintendent

The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Fleet Superintendent to improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Fleet within our Engineering and Public Works department

The Construction Inspector earns a competitive annual wage of $75,266.43-$95,964.70 based on experience and qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance, plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. Leads and manages the daily activities of the Fleet Division of the Engineering and Public Works Department. Ensures all work is conducted according to City and department policy, codes and standards of quality. The incumbent must be able to perform work within a broad framework of general policy, exercising broad judgment in defining work objectives and determining methods and systems to meet objectives.

Supervises subordinates including mechanics and administrative personnel. Performs related work as required. Reports to the Deputy Director of Engineering and Public Works.

• Provides leadership to develop a culture of continuous improvement. Develops and manages the division budget. Sets high standards for customer service through timely and considerate delivery of services to clients and to vendors.
• Uses the City's fleet management software systems to manage and track fleet inventory, repair history, parts, fuel usage, etc.
• Refines the City's fleet management software system to develop a reliable fleet replacement program based on factors including, but not limited to, age, repair costs over time, appropriateness of use, etc.
• Directs and leads mechanics and shop foreman; supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others staff; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; acting on employee problems; and recommending employee discipline as appropriate.
• Reviews work of subordinates for completeness, accuracy and adherence to policies and standards; evaluates performance and offers advice and assistance as needed.
• Develops and monitors division budget; solicits, recommend and manages contracts, manages the ordering of supplies, parts and equipment; ensures purchases do not exceed annual budget allocations. Attends City Council meetings as needed.
• Schedules current and long-range work projects for the division and ensures the good value through the allocation of equipment, materials and personnel to accomplish projects; estimates the cost of materials and labor for each project.
• Manages the City's Motor Pool Program and vehicle lifecycle and replacement plans
• Develops and implements program to ensure solid communications with clients about work status.
• Develops and implements program for implementation of a service loaner pool so that clients with vehicles downed for repairs will have alternate means of transportation.
• Manages the fleet maintenance shop, performing such duties as scheduling routine maintenance and major and minor repair work; obtaining price quotes for service and repair work; processing state vehicle inspections, etc.
• Inspects work in progress and at completion to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, City ordinances, and safety rules and regulations.
