A registered nurse is responsible for incoming calls from patients, physicians and healthcare organizations. Using the nursing process and software protocols, the nurse will assess the patient based upon triage guidelines and offer appropriate care. The nurse facilitates referrals to primary care providers, specialists, healthcare facilities, and community resources and communicates with providers and organizations as appropriate.
Primary Responsibilities- Provide accurate and complete information about available resources.
- Record significant health history for the caller, assign relevant health risk tag(s) and demonstrate excellent communication skills.
- Maintain a customer‑driven professional attitude, close calls by thanking callers and offering service for future inquiries for 90 % of inbound calls.
- Act as an interdependent and supportive team member, leading by setting direction and established resources, fostering team building and high team morale in the clinic.
- Accept incoming calls from patients who request assistance with acute or chronic medical issues, establishing and maintaining a positive rapport and completing registration information or confirming current patient data.
- Consistently and accurately record patient complaints, symptoms, and nursing assessment following departmental documentation guidelines.
- Analyze complex information, organize and prioritize multiple conflicting tasks, and solve problems and make decisions quickly.
- Communicate two‑way with patients' families, caregivers, physicians and operators, remain calm and purposeful when addressing emergent or chaotic situations, and refer inquiries to appropriate sources.
- Stay current on job‑related knowledge and skills, including ongoing education, in‑service, credentialing and certification requirements.
- Utilize knowledge of triage guidelines for 100 % of callers and facilitate appropriate disposition based on assessment information.
- Document all inquiries for medico‑legal and statistical purposes and schedule call‑backs within 24 hours for emergency referrals as required.
- Participate in committees and meetings to improve telephone nursing processes.
- Associate of Applied Science in Nursing.
- RN license in the State of Texas, current and active.
- At least five (5) years of progressive clinical RN experience in an acute‑care setting for adults and/or pediatrics.
- Proficient PC skills, including Windows Operating System.
- Typing speed of at least 30 words per minute.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Three (3) years or more of RN experience in an Emergency Department.
- One (1) year or more of triage nurse experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
The hourly pay for this role ranges from $28.94 to $51.63 per hour based on full‑time employment. Additional benefits include a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase, and 401(k) contributions, all subject to eligibility requirements.
