The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Utility Maintenance Worker – Streets to help improve aspects of the day‑to‑day operations of our Engineering & Public Works Department. The Utility Maintenance Worker – Streets earns a competitive salary of $18.86 – $20.41 hourly based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for employees’ dental, long‑term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. ADAY IN THE LIFE AS THE UTILITY MAINTENANCE WORKER – STREETS Essential Functions
- Maintains equipment such as pole saws, rescue saws, chainsaws, hoses and nozzles and hand tools.
- Clean and maintain shop area.
- Performs daily inspections of equipment, repairs and maintains equipment such as backhoes, forklifts, dump trucks, front loaders, pothole patchers, etc.
- Drives dump trucks and heavy haul trucks to move dirt and equipment.
- Coordinates and assists in preparations including but not limited to gathering, loading, and unloading equipment.
- Assists with road repair, patching, and potholes.
- Performs traffic control and flagging when needed, builds traffic control work zones and puts out traffic control devices for traffic safety.
- Completes needed maintenance to keep City right of way compliant with City Ordinance & Codes.
- Operate heavy and medium equipment such as backhoes, forklifts, dump trucks, front loaders, pothole patchers, etc.
- Operates hand and gas‑powered tools.
- Responds to customer complaint calls, work orders and service requests.
- Removes downed trees and roadway.
- Assist in cleanup after storms, hurricanes, and ice storms.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Requires high school graduation or GED equivalent.
- Three months street maintenance experience or closely related preferred.
- Valid, Class C driver’s license.
Salary: $18.86 – $20.41 per hour.
