Special Education Inclusion Aide

Primary Purpose

Assist students with assigned academic work and support their participation in the general education classroom. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher to help students stay engaged, complete assignments, and follow classroom routines.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

• High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
• Have met formal academic assessment requirements, hold an associate's degree, or have completed two years of study at an institution of higher learning.
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate.

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Ability to work effectively with students of varying academic abilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
• Knowledge of general office and classroom equipment.

Experience

• Some experience working with children preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Support

Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.

Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment.

Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment and materials.

Support the teacher with administrative tasks and record keeping as assigned.

Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers as needed.

Student Support

Work with individual students or small groups to complete assigned classwork, practice skills, and follow teacher-directed instructional activities.

Encourage students to stay on task, use organizational strategies, and follow classroom expectations.

Monitor student progress during assignments and keep the teacher informed of academic concerns or needs.

Provide assistance and clarification as directed by the teacher without replacing teacher instruction.

Help supervise students throughout the school day, including during transitions, lunch, bus, and playground duty as assigned.

Other

Maintain confidentiality of student information.

Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.

Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment.

Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional lifting and moving classroom materials and equipment.

Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise.
