Position: Site Safety Representative - Contract

OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company is looking for a Site Safety Representative (contract) with organizational skills and construction safety experience to join our team at our project site in Pecos, Texas. This contract position will be located at our client site, not a Merrick office. This on‑site contract position is anticipated to last twelve (12) to fifteen (15) months.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Drive Merrick’s safety culture through maintaining strong relationships with all levels of Merrick management and supervision.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections of facilities, personnel, equipment and materials, visiting job sites and offices.
  • Monitor employee compliance with safety laws and policies.
  • Conduct general and project specific health & safety training for staff.
  • Develop Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) plans; conduct hazard evaluations and project safety reviews based on job scope and tasks.
  • Lead the preparation and maintenance of safety documentation and compliance records.
  • Develop or update health & safety plans that are general or project specific.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, prepare reports, and recommend preventive measures.
  • Evaluate PPE and ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE.
  • Ensure there is appropriate health and safety equipment for Merrick and project staff; apply federal, state and local client regulation and requirements to project planning and execution.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to implement solutions to safety issues.
  • Ensure contractor construction activities are in compliance with OSHA requirements and the established Site‑Specific Safety Plan.
  • Coordinate with Site Construction Team to monitor, track and report Project Safety Statistics.
  • Lead Safety Meetings with all Project Staff. Also, lead Safety Discussions, Issues and Concerns as part construction coordination meetings with all contractor representatives.
  • Investigate and report all safety incidents for record and communication with Project Team and management.
  • Support the development and implementation of safety response plans.
  • Suggest solutions, improvements, and prevention steps for safety issues.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience working in a safety environment.
  • OSHA 30 certification (minimum). If the individual does not have a current OSHA 30 Cert, Merrick will work with them to obtain and fulfill this requirement.
  • A current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). If the individual does not have a current TWIC card, Merrick will work with them to obtain and fulfill this requirement.
  • Licensed to operate light vehicles and ability to be insured under Merrick vehicle insurance through satisfactory MVR.
  • Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Deep and diversified knowledge of health, safety & environmental practices.
  • Direct experience with construction, open shop, and union office and field environments.
  • Familiarity with ISNetworld, Avetta, PSC, and similar online compliance systems.
  • Familiarity with OSHA 300 logs.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulation and requirements, with the ability to stay informed of new and revised rules and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety laws and guidelines.
  • Ability to provide detailed reports and develop safety procedures.
  • Good understanding of data analysis and risk assessment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to recognize when safety conditions need improvement.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks especially when handling an accident or incident.
  • Proficient in MS Office, MS Project, and/or other management software.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations and safety standards.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate’s degree preferred in Environmental Safety or related field from an accredited program (some education may be replaced by experience).
  • MSHA certification preferred. If the individual does not have a current MSHA cert, Merrick will work with them to obtain and fulfill this requirement.
  • At least one or a combination of the following certifications:
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), BCSP Cert (Board of Certified Safety Professionals).
