Generator Technician

General Responsibilities of the Generator Technician/Station Operator:

• Ensure that primary power is served to customers with 98%+ reliability.
• Systematically troubleshoot and repair generators (1,000–2,500 kW) and associated equipment.
• Perform inspections, repairs, services, and start-up load-bank tests on equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of generator conditions, maintenance, and spare parts usage.
• Perform all tasks safely and professionally, maintaining a team-player attitude.

General Experience and

Skills Required:

• 5+ years’ experience maintaining and troubleshooting large horsepower (1,000+) natural gas generators.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-lines, and wiring diagrams.
• Self-motivated with the ability to perform tasks with little supervision.
• Strong safety awareness—knowing when to stop work and request assistance.
• Willingness and ability to learn new skills and procedures.

General Experience and Skills Preferred:

• 5+ years’ direct experience with CAT’s ET software for engine diagnosing, troubleshooting, and tuning.
• 5+ years' experience tuning natural gas engines with combustion efficiency/environmental analyzers.
• Direct experience with oil & gas field operations (facilities, generation stations, etc.).
• Direct experience with process gas flow and common instrumentation (valves, regulators, P&IDs).
• Familiarity with CAT SIS technical documentation and manuals.
