Engineer I – Salary Grade: G08

Personnel may be covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. Prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred, candidates must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, including identity verification and a criminal background check, as well as mandatory cyber security training. Annual training is also required.

Depending on location, a credit background check may also be required.

Under direct supervision, the employee performs assignments designed to develop engineering knowledge and skills through the application of standard techniques and procedures.

• Provides entry‑level engineering support for small, repetitive projects.
• Conducts small or repetitive studies or participates in larger studies where project performance, cost, and scheduling are key evaluation factors.
• Provides basic engineering support to operational areas.
• Communicates engineering ideas, recommendations, and evaluations.
• Represents the company in fundamental technical matters.
• Provides entry‑level technical support to and interacts with other associates.
• Uses company and industry standards to ensure safety and consistency of engineering results.
• Provides occasional technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and lower‑level company personnel.

• Applies basic engineering principles, practices, and regulations.
• Reads, interprets, and applies national, state, and local codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC).
• Demonstrates leadership, self‑motivation, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Translates electrical theory and physics into utility applications for improving system reliability.
• Confidently works in and around high‑voltage (up to 345 kV) electrical facilities and equipment.

Minimum education:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution and one to three years of related experience.

Must possess a current, legally valid driver’s license and meet the company’s driving record requirements.

• Ability to read and interpret documents.
• Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, speeches, and presentations.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, and managers.

• Proficient with electrical engineering design programs (e.g., AutoCAD).
• Working knowledge of operating systems, word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.

Applies common sense to understand and execute complex instructions, and handles problems involving multiple variables in complex situations.

Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, exposure to outside elements, lifting (up to 50 lb), crouching, bending, climbing, and work at various heights.

Hard hat, safety glasses, and hearing protection.

Time divided between office and field; majority in the office. Work involves high‑voltage electricity, computers, office equipment, and construction equipment.
