The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response, the Renewables & Clean Power team has signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas‑fired power generation facilities in the U.S. The team is helping the customer progress early‑stage development, which will lead to full EPC delivery next year.
We are seeking a Rigging Field Engineer for the project in Pecos, Texas, on a long‑term (camp) assignment. This position is contingent upon project award.
Supports preparation of lifting plans for mechanical equipment, skids, and piping spools. Coordinates with field engineers, project control planners, and superintendents. Performs field measurements and ensures work is executed per drawings, specifications, and schedule.
Major Responsibilities- Independently prepares conceptual lift and transport studies.
- Provides technical input into transport and rigging plans, advising supervision on crane and transport requirements.
- Prepares specifications for bid packages and assesses subcontractor bids for lifting and abnormal transport.
- Assists with estimates and prepares medium and critical rigging plans, lift data sheets, and calculations.
- Reviews and approves medium and critical risk lift and transport plans submitted by subcontractors or other parties; coordinates approval with a Bechtel Certified Rigging Engineer.
- Might supervise execution of lifting operations and abnormal site transport movements, coordinating schedules with Project Controls.
- Develops rigging training materials and conducts required rigging courses.
- Monitors application of standard work processes and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with approved rigging plans and applicable codes.
- Provides leadership to promote a safe work environment.
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and 8‑10 years of relevant experience, or 12‑14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills- Extensive knowledge of rigging planning and execution standards and requirements, including lifting equipment, heavy lifting systems, mobile gantries, jacking, tailing, rigging equipment, load distribution, transport/transfer, soil mechanics, and structural steel design.
- Knowledge of construction activities related to engineering, cost and scheduling, and contract administration; understanding of environmental, safety, and health requirements.
- Understanding of subcontractor administration and ability to interpret subcontract documents.
- Experience supervising personnel and administering subcontractors preferred; strong judgment in selecting methods and solutions.
