Position Summary
The Banquet Captain is responsible for overseeing banquet functions from setup through execution and breakdown, ensuring exceptional service standards are met at every stage. This role serves as the on-site leader for banquet team members, coordinating service flow, communicating with culinary and event teams, and ensuring guest satisfaction throughout each event.
The Banquet Captain leads by example and is expected to embody Meyer Jabara Hotels' J Quality Behaviors: Joy, Jump, Join - delivering genuine hospitality, proactively addressing needs, and fostering strong teamwork.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Event Execution & Leadership
- Oversee banquet functions to ensure proper setup, service, and breakdown according to event orders (BEOs)
- Lead pre-shift meetings to review event details, service expectations, and assignments
- Supervise banquet servers and support staff during events
- Serve as primary point of contact for clients, wedding planners, and event hosts during functions
- Ensure seamless coordination between banquet, culinary, bar, and operations teams
- Monitor service flow to maintain timing, quality, and presentation standards
Guest Experience
- Greet hosts and key guests with professionalism and warmth
- Anticipate guest needs and address requests promptly
- Handle guest concerns or service recovery situations efficiently and professionally
- Maintain elevated service standards reflective of a luxury boutique property
Operational Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate setup of tables, décor elements, AV needs, and event spaces
- Verify adherence to food safety, sanitation, and alcohol service standards
- Assist with inventory control and equipment management
- Complete post-event documentation and communicate feedback to management
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of banquet spaces and storage areas
Experience & Education
- Minimum 1-2 years of banquet or restaurant service experience required
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of banquet service styles (plated, buffet, reception, cocktail)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Ability to move tables, chairs, and banquet equipment as needed
