Onboarding Verification Specialist
Job Description
The Onboarding Verification Specialist coordinates and completes pre-employment screenings, background checks, and employment verifications for newly hired employees. This role ensures all onboarding requirements are met accurately, timely, and in compliance with applicable regulations while supporting a positive and professional candidate experience. The specialist works closely with Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, and Hiring Managers to deliver a seamless and efficient onboarding process in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct comprehensive pre-employment screenings, including employment verification, education verification, criminal background checks, and other required clearances.
+ Review and validate screening results to ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
+ Partner with Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, and Hiring Managers to facilitate a seamless onboarding and hiring process.
+ Communicate directly with candidates regarding outstanding requirements, missing documentation, and onboarding status updates.
+ Track and monitor onboarding progress to ensure completion of all pre-employment requirements within established timelines.
+ Investigate and resolve discrepancies identified during the verification and screening process.
+ Maintain accurate records and documentation within HRIS systems and onboarding platforms.
+ Ensure confidentiality and security of sensitive candidate and employee information at all times.
+ Provide excellent customer service and support to candidates and internal stakeholders throughout the onboarding process.
+ Assist with process improvements to enhance onboarding efficiency, compliance, and the overall candidate experience.
+ Perform additional administrative and onboarding-related duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ 2+ years of experience in onboarding, pre-employment verification, or a closely related HR support function.
+ Demonstrated experience conducting pre-employment verifications and background checks.
+ Strong understanding of onboarding processes and HR support activities.
+ Ability to review, interpret, and validate background screening results in line with organizational policies and regulations.
+ High level of attention to detail and accuracy when handling sensitive information and documentation.
+ Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
+ Clear and professional communication skills for interacting with candidates, Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, and Hiring Managers.
+ Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive candidate and employee data securely.
+ Proficiency with HRIS systems and onboarding platforms or the ability to quickly learn new systems.
+ Bachelor's degree.

Work Environment
This role follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., based on a 35-hour work week. The position operates in a hybrid work environment, with three days per week in the office in Peekskill and two days remote. At the start of employment, the role may be fully in-office for approximately one to three weeks to support onboarding and training.
The organization provides comprehensive primary, preventive, and behavioral health services and focuses on serving communities across multiple counties, including underserved and vulnerable populations. Team members work in a collaborative, mission-driven setting with access to modern HR systems and tools to support efficient onboarding and verification processes.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Peekskill, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.85/hr.
