Police DispatcherJoin our dynamic team as a Police Dispatcher and become an essential link between our community and law enforcement. In this role you will receive calls, transmit information, and coordinate response efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens, officers, and emergency responders. You will work with radio, telephone, teletype, and computer systems to dispatch personnel, equipment, and services.
Responsibilities- Receive various calls and requests for police and fire assistance; notify law enforcement, fire department, or service vehicles to respond with location and occurrence details.
- Dispatch equipment such as radio‑equipped service vehicles and ambulances.
- Operate ACJIC teletype, two‑way radios, computer, and telephone to transmit data to personnel in the field and to ACJIC and NCIC.
- Maintain computer files for stolen vehicles, property, and wanted persons; provide motor vehicle registration information to officers; maintain incident, arrest, bail bond, warrant, and complaint logs.
- Provide receipts for bond payments, handle deposits and accounts for collected funds.
- Assist with booking of individuals charged with crimes, maintain prisoner registers, and support jail operations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

- Must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Completion of some college or university coursework in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Police Science, Criminology, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
Special Requirements
Employees must retain the legal right and authority to access ACJIC and NCIC computer systems. Conviction of any felony or other crime that results in loss of access rights, or any sustained breach of access rules that leads to termination of access, will disqualify the employee from continued employment.
Language Ability- Read and interpret documents, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Speak English clearly, distinctly, and concisely at a volume level satisfactory for radio and telephone operations.
- Hearing sufficient for use of multiple radio systems and standard telephone systems.
- Communicate verbally and effectively by listening and giving instructions.
- Read, analyze, and interpret maps of streets and business locations.
- Comprehend policies and procedures of the police, fire departments, and city civil service law.
- Excellent verbal communication skills for emergency situations.
- Fluency in Spanish preferred.
- Apply common sense to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions.
- Handle multiple variables in standardized situations.
- Prioritize calls and inquiries by danger level.
- Organize and manage multiple tasks, including under emergency circumstances.
- Remain calm and perform well under pressure.
Proficient in relevant technology and software applications; capable of using multiple computer screens simultaneously.
Work EnvironmentThe position is primarily conducted indoors in an office setting but may require work near jail and other police department areas. Noise level is usually moderate.
Physical DemandsRegular use of hands for typing; require hand dexterity. Must talk and listen. Occasional standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must lift up to 10 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Must be able to use computer monitors and printouts. Ability to multi‑task between phone, computer, and radio simultaneously. Available to work any shift, any day of the week, and for emergency call‑ups.
