Non-tenure-earning temporary Assistant Professor, Music Technology

GENERAL INFO

The Department of Music at the University of Alabama at Birmingham invites applications for a one-year, non-tenure-earning temporary Assistant Professor appointment in Music Technology.

The UAB Department of Music seeks a dynamic teacher and experienced professional with demonstrated expertise in multiple areas of music technology, including recording engineering and contemporary studio production practices. A master's degree in music technology, recording engineering, or a closely related discipline is required; a doctorate is preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in computer music, recording technology, and studio-based music technology.
  • Supporting the operation and pedagogical use of departmental music tech labs.
  • Mentoring students pursuing careers in music technology, audio engineering, production, and related industries.
  • Supervising students in their capstone internship placements.
  • Recruiting for the Music Technology area.
  • Participating in departmental service and activities.

Additional teaching responsibilities may include Introduction to Music Technology, Synthesis, or Multimedia, consistent with departmental needs and the candidate’s areas of expertise.

Priority will be given to candidates with:

  • Demonstrated collegiate-level teaching experience in Music Technology.
  • Advanced proficiency in industry-standard software.
  • Significant professional experience in studio recording environments.
  • A strong understanding of contemporary multimedia production.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required Qualifications: A master’s degree in Music Technology, Recording Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Music Technology, Recording Engineering, or a closely related discipline is preferred.
