Assistant Principal Qualifications

  • Must pass appropriate background screening.
  • Must have the physical ability, aptitude, and skills to complete all duties related to the job.
  • Must have the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
  • College graduate and meet the requirements as set by State of Alabama certification.
  • Requires proper Alabama administrative certification.
  • Ensure consistent punctuality by arriving to work on time each day, maintaining a reliable and professional presence.

  • Job Description
  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities.
  • Oversees and is accountable for assigned responsibilities within the school, which may include but not be limited to student discipline, scheduling, personnel management, supervision, instructional and/or extracurricular activities, handling logistical matters, safety/crisis management, and/or professional development activities.
  • Models and maintains high ethical standards.
  • Works closely with the Principal and peers to ensure the smooth overall operation of the school.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining a positive tone and climate conducive to learning.
  • Performs daily administrative tasks which may include processing paperwork, data entry, and preparing and maintaining files, records, and reports.
  • Encourages and monitors the integration of technology in the classroom.
  • Maintains high visibility within all areas of the facility.
  • Participates in meetings and other activities appropriate for professional development and effective school operations.
  • Assists the Principal in providing leadership in the school improvement process and the implementation of continuous improvement plans, the accreditation program, accountability reports, and other areas as requested.
  • Maintains standards of student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Attends school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
  • Models and encourages effective interpersonal and communication skills for all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement; keeps Principal informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  • Makes recommendations to the Principal for the purpose of improving the quality of the school and school system.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
  • Salary and Terms of Employment

    Based on Pelham City Schools salary schedule placement and degree and experience.

    Reports To

    Superintendent, Principal, or Supervisors as designated by the Superintendent or Principal.
