The Sharps Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily on-site sharps and medical waste service operations within assigned healthcare facilities. This position supervises and supports Sharps Technicians to ensure the safe and timely placement, collection, and transportation of reusable medical waste containers throughout customer facilities. The Sharps Supervisor coordinates daily work assignments, monitors service schedules, supports employee training and performance, addresses customer service needs, and ensures employees follow company policies, customer requirements, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory standards.
This role serves as a key point of contact between Sharps Medical Waste Services, employees, and healthcare facility personnel.
- Supervise and provide day-to-day direction to Sharps Technicians assigned to customer healthcare facilities.
- Coordinate daily work assignments, staffing, collection schedules, and service priorities to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Monitor employee performance and provide coaching, training, and ongoing support to maintain service and safety standards.
- Assist with onboarding and training new employees on customer procedures, collection processes, safety requirements, and company expectations.
- Ensure the proper placement, collection, and transportation of reusable medical waste containers, including Sharps, pharmaceutical (Rx), hazardous waste, and other regulated waste containers.
- Ensure RCRA pharmaceutical waste is properly collected and transported to designated central accumulation areas within healthcare facilities.
- Monitor established collection and service schedules and address delays or service concerns as they arise.
- Conduct routine observations of employee work practices to ensure compliance with company safety procedures and customer requirements.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customer questions, service concerns, and operational needs.
- Proactively identify and resolve customer service issues while maintaining strong working relationships with healthcare facility personnel.
- Review container usage and service needs to determine whether container sizes, quantities, or service levels should be adjusted.
- Maintain professionalism, sensitivity, compassion, and discretion when working in patient rooms and other healthcare environments.
- Ensure required service documentation, logs, reports, and other records are completed accurately and on time.
- Communicate operational updates, staffing concerns, customer issues, and service needs to management.
- Support inventory management and ensure employees have the supplies, containers, equipment, and personal protective equipment needed to complete their responsibilities.
- Promote a safe work environment and ensure employees follow company policies, customer facility requirements, and applicable safety and regulatory procedures.
- Provide hands-on operational support and perform Sharps Technician responsibilities when necessary to maintain service levels.
- Travel between designated customer facilities as operationally required.
- Maintain flexibility to work outside normal business hours based on customer and operational needs.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
