Position: Maintenance Mechanic Pell City, AL

the ford meter box co., inc., ( ), is seeking someone to join our maintenance department as a maintenance mechanic. Key job duties include but are not limited to:

  • repairs and maintains mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment and machinery in accordance with diagrams, sketches, maintenance manuals, specifications from the manufacturer, approved industry standards, and established codes.
  • know all of the tools required for the job. Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment, such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment, using hand tools, power tools, and precision - measuring and testing instruments. Know the proper usage of advanced measurement tools such as torque wrenches, calipers, etc.
  • know how to read basic and more complex blueprints and schematics. Use blueprints to learn how the equipment operates and reference assembly blueprints to identify and order replacement parts.
  • know the different types of lubricants and their proper use for specific types of equipment. Repair and install all lubricating equipment, including air regulators, filters, cylinders, solenoid valves, and oil transfer pumps. Recognize lubrication problems and recommend corrective actions for repair/replacement.
  • complete proper installation of shafts, sprockets, pulleys, gears, and bearings. Repair and maintain machinery. Set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking equipment to make and repair parts. Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools. Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.

    Learn the tolerance and proper assembly of machine components.
  • know how to troubleshoot most mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs. Learning to troubleshoot all mechanical, electrical hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs. Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • know the different types and functionality of solenoid, pressure, and pressure relief valves. Layout, assemble, install and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment. Work with blueprints and schematics to set up systems, and demonstrate understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic circuits. Perform most of the troubleshooting and all of the repair of corresponding systems.
  • know the proper operation of welding machines, saws, shears, press brakes, and equipment used for fabrication. Perform most welding jobs and minor fabrication from blueprints, if necessary. Know the proper operation of a cutting torch.
  • know how to perform basic carpentry tasks such as rough construction and hanging drywall with good appearance. Know how to install door and window additions. Specify materials needed for a simple carpentry jobs. Read and work from blueprints if necessary to complete jobs.
  • replace plumbing fixtures and clear clogged drains. Know the different types of pipe and how to operate saws and pipe threading equipment. Perform all jobs including bending, cutting, threading, or sealing pipe, and the finished job is square and plumb.
  • run conduit, pull wire, and maintain control cabinets for machines. Maintain and repair electrical systems of the plant using electrical testing meters, hand tools, and power tools. Connect wiring to motors, fixtures, and other electrical equipment, replace switches and fuses, change light bulbs, and perform wire splicing to join circuits. Read all electrical schematics.
  • work with the master mechanic to perform troubleshooting and repair of plc, cnc, machine center, and other automated equipment.
  • observe all safety responsibilities to include but not limited to, lockout tagout, and other safety related programs. Recognize the hazards of different forms of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic energy.
  • operate forklift, scissor lift, and bucket lift.
  • perform independent work with limited supervision.

must have associate degree (aa) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school: or one year to 18 months related maintenance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to pass the corresponding test for a maintenance mechanic.

candidates must have the ability to work independently, have strong organizational skills and initiative while working with the group.
