Full-time $40,000 - $42,000, annuallyYWCA Central Alabama Downtown Birmingham, Alabama As a full-time, you are eligible for a generous company benefit plan package (medical, dental, vision and various supplemental life insurance programs). Description of responsibilities:

Provide advocacy services and support to victims of domestic violence by completing client intake and YWCA services orientation.

Determine the needs of the client in order to link them to additional needed services, making referrals as needed. Provide ongoing case management.

Maintain timely and thorough files for each client served.

Develop and maintain working relationships with law enforcement, district attorneys, social service agencies, and medical resources.

Regularly attend municipal, district, and circuit courts.

Develop and maintain partnerships with local and state agencies involved in the prevention of domestic violence.

Provide education and serve as a subject matter expert regarding domestic violence.

Attend required in-service training and meetings.

Required Skills:

Ability to respond with empathy and support to victims in crisis situations with sensitivity and awareness to diverse cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds, values, attitudes and languages including people of all ages, genders, health status, sexual orientation or educational background. Proficiency in another language, particularly Spanish, appreciated.

Knowledge of advocacy techniques to use with individuals who have been victims of domestic violence, including crisis intervention and case management.

Knowledge of the community being served and the resources available to the residents.

Knowledge of programs, processes, policy, rules, and regulations as they apply to supporting domestic violence victims.

Knowledge of the legal rights of victims.

Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to explain legal information and situations in a way that is understandable to clients.

Proven track record of ability to maintain confidentiality, and earn others’ trust and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions.

Ability to self-initiate and work independently, as we as work well on a team.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Services (social work, counseling, psychology, or sociology) from an accredited college or university, preferred.

Minimum of two years of experience providing direct services, advocacy, and support to victims and survivors of domestic violence.

Must have a valid driver’s license, excellent driving record, and personal liability insurance.

Must be able to successfully complete a criminal history background check.
