Pella Corporation is seeking an experienced Automation Controls Technician to join our highly technical engineering team. This role supports the development, implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization of advanced manufacturing equipment across multiple Pella locations. The ideal candidate will have strong PLC programming experience and hands‑on expertise with robotics, CNC equipment, motion controls, servos, and VFDs.
What You'll Do- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and motion control programs
- Support robotics, CNC equipment, servo systems, and VFDs
- Implement and commission new manufacturing equipment and process improvements
- Wire, program, test, and support industrial automation systems
- Partner with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to improve equipment performance
- Support Continuous Improvement and Kaizen initiatives
- Train and mentor technical team members
- Travel to Pella manufacturing locations as needed
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of industrial automation, controls, or manufacturing maintenance experience
- PLC programming experience (Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell preferred)
- Experience with robotics and CNC equipment
- Experience with motion controls, servo motors, drives, and VFDs
- Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- HMI development and industrial networking experience
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, RSLogix, Factory Talk View, AlphaCAM, and Microsoft Office
- Experience supporting high‑speed manufacturing equipment
- Knowledge of machine safety and safeguarding standards
- Work with advanced automation technologies including PLCs, robotics, CNC equipment, and motion control systems
- Support projects across multiple manufacturing locations
- Collaborate with a highly skilled engineering and technical team
