Registered Nurse L&D Travel Position

Voyage is seeking a Registered Nurse with a L&D specialty to travel to Pella, IA. This position includes travel costs and offers a salary much greater than a local nursing assignment. Our client is looking for an experienced applicant who can start soon. To begin the application process, click on the "Apply Now" button above.

Travel nursing offers adventure, numerous choices, and flexibility. Nurses can select facilities and locations that suit their preferences and work in renowned facilities. Many nurses seek a quality lifestyle, and the ability to choose is important. Travel nurses often have control over their schedules. Many of our travelers have been in travel nursing for over 10 years and plan to continue.

If you are a medical professional seeking a good salary, flexible scheduling, and exciting locations, a travel career may be right for you. Here are the steps to start your travel nurse career:

Get Prepared For The Steps In The Process

Before starting your first travel assignment, some preparation is needed. Ensure your RN license is up to date, if necessary, and have complete immunization and physical examination records. Your CV should highlight your nursing skills and experience, and you should have several references who can vouch for you.

When you identify assignments you are interested in, your recruiter will submit you for them and you can prepare for the interview process. During the interview, inquire about important factors such as scheduling, patient-to-nurse ratios, and required skills.

State Licensing Requirements

Getting an RN license in a particular state can start before having an assignment lined up. If you are considering working in certain states, you can begin the licensure process beforehand. Some states, like California, New Jersey, and New York, may take over a month to process, while others process applications quickly, often in a few days. Some states allow you to obtain an RN license in one day by visiting the state nursing board directly.

Being part of the Nurse Licensure Compact, which includes 25 states, can make the process easier as it allows nurses to practice in any of the compact states. Your recruiter will assist you in obtaining a license in your chosen state.

Your Area Of Expertise

Each facility has its own policy, but generally, you need a year or more of experience in your area of specialization to be considered. Even though requirements vary between facilities, you can start applying for travel positions once you have a year of continuous experience. Some specialties, such as psychiatric RN and cardiac ICU, require over 2 years of experience.

Versatility

Along with your skills and experience, flexibility is vital for a successful travel nurse. You should be open to various hospital policies, procedures, and locations to gain additional skills during your travel experience. Even if your first choice was an assignment in Hawaii, don’t let a great opportunity in a different location pass you by. Most contracts are for 13 weeks, making it easy to try several cities within a one-year timeframe.

Job

References and Skills Checklist

A crucial part of your application is your set of clinical references. Make sure they are readily available before applying for a job. References are needed to confirm your clinical skills, and in most cases, three references will be sufficient. A travel nurse will typically be required to fill out a skills checklist along with their references.

After addressing your references and skills set, we can start seeking contracts that match your requirements. When you decide to accept a job, we will help you with any additional details such as immunizations and drug testing.
