Role
As a Service Technician, you are primarily responsible for troubleshooting MEP systems for all Harper Limbach customers. You will quickly diagnose problems, communicate the scope of effort to customers, and identify the most cost‑effective and timely solutions.
Responsibilities- Diagnose problems within building systems and either resolve or appropriately escalated them.
- Utilize HVAC diagnostic equipment to identify system issues.
- Review blueprints and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
- Leverage knowledge of building plans to inspect structures and locate key serviceable items.
- Keep records of assignments and produce detailed work reports to ensure accurate billing.
- Work directly with customers to develop solutions to all concerns in order of magnitude.
- Upsell ongoing maintenance contracts to non‑contract customers when appropriate.
- Employ specialized techniques, equipment, and materials to accelerate the diagnostic process.
- Direct apprentices in repairs and coach them in proper methods for quality, safe, and effective execution of required work.
- Service, repair, adjust, and test mechanical devices and equipment.
- Inspect equipment, structures, and materials to identify the cause of errors, safety hazards, or other issues and provide solutions or escalation as appropriate.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- 6+ years of MEP service experience in industrial, commercial, and/or building HVAC preventive maintenance.
- Universal EPA Certification.
- Basic computer proficiency, including experience with Microsoft and Google products.
- Ability to explain complex HVAC issues to customers in a clear, understandable manner.
- Exceptional time‑management skills.
- Fluent in English; able to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record compliant with company policies and MVR requirements.
- Consent to ongoing driving record monitoring by the company.
- Ability to travel locally up to 75% of the time.
- Completed OSHA 30‑Hour Training.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Maintain appropriate company confidentiality at all times.
- Protect the assets of the company and ethically uphold the Code of Conduct & Ethics in all situations.
- Cultivate and promote a safety culture.
- Consistently exemplify the company core values.
- Primarily in the field, responding to customer calls for service on MEP systems.
- Jobsite work may involve varying exposure to weather, potentially harmful materials or chemicals, fumes, odors, noise, dangerous machinery, and other conditions typically associated with a live construction site.
- Standing, walking – 4–6 hours per day.
- Sitting – 1–2 hours per day.
- Reaching above shoulder height – 2–4 hours per day.
- Working with body bent at waist – 2–4 hours per day.
- Working with arms extended at shoulder level – 1–2 hours per day.
- Kneeling, crawling, squatting – 1–2 hours per day.
- Pushing and pulling – 1–2 hours per day.
- Twisting, turning – 2–4 hours per day.
- Driving company vehicle – 2–4 hours per day.
- Climbing ladders, stairs – 1–2 hours per day.
- Lifting/carrying without assistance – up to 50 pounds maximum.
- Base hourly rate of $22/hr – $41/hr.
