The Elementary Library and Digital Literacy Teacher is a dynamic, innovative educator responsible for fostering a culture of inquiry, innovation, and a love of reading across the district's elementary schools. This position uniquely integrates traditional school library services with high-impact STREAM instruction.

Note:

The successful candidate will operate on a trimester rotation schedule, spending one full trimester at each of our three elementary school buildings over the course of the academic year.

Essential Responsibilities
1. Digital Literacy Instruction
The Specialist will design and deliver hands-on, inquiry-based STREAM lessons that explicitly integrate the four core strands of the Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) Frameworks:

* Computing and Society:
Teach foundational digital citizenship, internet safety, and the ethical use of digital tools and media.

* Digital Tools and

Collaboration:

Guide students in selecting and using digital tools to create, communicate, and collaborate on interdisciplinary artifacts as well as deliver age-appropriate, direct instruction in keyboarding skills.

* Computing Systems:
Introduce students to how hardware and software work together, troubleshooting basic technology issues.

* Computational Thinking:
Foster an innovator's mindset by embedding algorithmic thinking, coding, and problem-solving through hands-on engineering, robotics, and unplugged design challenges.
2. Library & Information Literacy
The Educator will maintain a vibrant, inclusive library environment and deliver instruction aligned with the MA School Library Media Program Standards for 21st Century Learning:

* Inquiry-Based Learning:
Teach the "information problem-solving life cycle", guiding students on how to ask research questions, locate resources, evaluate information critically, and synthesize findings.

* Literacy Promotion:
Promote a robust culture of reading by curating diverse print and digital collections, conducting book talks, and supporting early literacy initiatives.

* Resource Management:
Manage circulation, cataloging, and inventory of library books and STREAM makerspace materials.
3. Collaboration & Trimester Transition

* Partner with classroom teachers to embed STREAM and research skills into the core English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies curricula.

* Maintain seamless instructional continuity as the program rotates through the three elementary buildings each trimester.

* Collaborate with building principals to establish schedules and routines that maximize student access to the makerspace/library during their designated trimester.
