Job Description & How to Apply Below

Thayer Scale is looking for a hands‑on Sustaining Electrical Engineer to support and improve the electrical and electronic systems used in our industrial weighing and feeding equipment.

The successful candidate will work with industrial control panels, wiring, instrumentation, sensors, load cells, signal‑conditioning electronics, power supplies, motors, drives, PLCs, HMIs, and related control devices.

The role combines practical troubleshooting with disciplined documentation, testing, compliance, and sustaining engineering.

You’ll work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Materials, Service, Sales, and vendors to support both existing products and newly released designs. This is a strong fit for an electrical engineer who enjoys being on the shop floor, diagnosing real hardware and system issues, and turning recurring problems into lasting improvements.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic problems in production equipment, control panels, instrumentation, sensors, load‑cell systems, motor controls, and related circuitry
  • Sustain and improve existing electrical and electronic product designs, including wiring, controls, signal conditioning, power distribution, and interface hardware
  • Read, review, and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOMs, test procedures, calibration procedures, and work instructions
  • Evaluate electrical components and substitutes for function, ratings, compatibility, reliability, availability, and compliance
  • Support Engineering Change Orders, product updates, component obsolescence, configuration control, and documentation improvements
  • Investigate production, field‑service, supplier, and quality issues using practical electrical troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis
  • Develop and improve electrical test methods, fixtures, calibration processes, and diagnostic procedures
  • Support new product releases to ensure electrical designs are buildable, testable, documented, compliant, and serviceable
  • Assist with electrical compliance activities, including UL 508A industrial control panels and hazardous‑area classification considerations
  • Work within a Lean Manufacturing environment to support continuous improvement
What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a practical, hands‑on electrical engineer with a strong foundation in industrial electrical systems and electronics.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent practical electrical/electronics experience
  • Substantial hands‑on experience troubleshooting industrial electrical and electronic systems
  • Practical knowledge of control panels, wiring, power supplies, sensors, load cells, instrumentation, signal conditioning, motors, drives, PLCs, HMIs, and control devices
  • Ability to read, interpret, and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOMs, and technical documentation
  • Experience using electrical test equipment and systematic diagnostic methods to isolate component-, wiring-, circuit-, and system-level faults
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, sustaining engineering, product documentation, electrical test procedures, component substitutions, or ECOs
  • Strong root‑cause analysis skills and the ability to translate findings into durable corrective actions
  • A detail‑oriented approach to documentation, configuration control, compliance, and follow‑through
  • Experience with UL 508A, industrial control panel compliance, or hazardous‑location applications is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles is a plus.

Salary Range - $ 95,000 - $125,000 Per Year
