Summary
This is a Direct‑Hire advertisement. Veterans’ Preference is not applicable. This Wildland Firefighter position is with the U.S. Wildland Fire Service (GW‑0456‑3) and will be based in Pendleton, OR.
Major Duties- Acts as an entry‑level wildland firefighter on engine, fuels, or wildland fire module (WFM) crews.
Performs assignments such as developing a working knowledge of fire suppression and fuels‑management techniques, practices, and terminology, and may assist in specialized assignments such as backfire, burnout, mobile, and stationary engine attack.
EducationApplicants must provide proof of education that meets the required credit hours. Transcripts (official or unofficial) must include grades, credit hours, major(s), GPA or class ranking, institution name, and student name. If required coursework is not clearly identified on a transcript, a memorandum from the registrar or dean may be used. Graduate education, foreign education, and CTAP/ICTAP documentation are also required as described.
Requirements- U.S. citizen or national.
- Suitability for federal employment as determined by a background investigation.
- Direct deposit is required.
- Drug test and medical examination.
- Pre‑employment work capacity test for arduous positions.
- Valid state driver’s license if driving is required.
- Selective Service registration for males born after 12‑31‑1959.
- Minimum age 18 for hazardous positions.
- Ability to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work; frequent extended travel during fire season.
- Government charge card may be required for travel.
Pay rates vary depending on location. For additional information on pay rates, consult OPM Salaries and Wages. This position is not suitable for telework.
