Mental Health Therapist - School Based Services - (MH) Responsibilities
- Provide case management, skills training, support services, group and individual counseling to persons with developmental disabilities, severe and persistent mental illness, and chemical dependency as required.
- Assess client needs and functional level under general supervision.
- Provide individualized case management to clients and make appropriate referrals.
- Provide individual and group counseling, education, and support to clients and families, and conduct outreach to client homes.
- Act as liaison and provide consultation, education, and information to community agencies that routinely engage individuals with mental or emotional disturbances.
- Make diagnoses and assist with program planning activities as a program coordinator.
- Screen clients for program eligibility and conduct comprehensive evaluations resulting in a DSM‑IV diagnosis.
- Develop diagnostic evaluations and treatment plans, delivering appropriate services as defined in the treatment plan.
- Provide consultation for chemical dependency issues and offer education and training to program staff, community agencies, and groups.
- Provide clinical review of work by other clinicians or subcontracted programs.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; and effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Journey level professional counseling position requiring an M.A. degree plus two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience must include individual, group, and family counseling.
Certificates, Licenses, and RegistrationsValid driver’s license, appropriate state licensure. Mental Health Specialist working with the chemically dependent must hold appropriate CADC licensure or receive the credential/license within 36 months of application.
