Job Title
School Based Counselor – Mental Health Specialist III or IV
LocationAthena/Weston School District
FLSA.83 FTE, school based, exempt. Expectation to work 40 hrs/week during the school season.
SupervisorClinical Supervisor of School Based Counselors
Pay Grade- MHS IV – B12: $61,337 - $92,628 annually (DOE), exempt, requires a Doctorate or Licensure.
- MHS III – B11: $56,025 - $83,996 annually (DOE), exempt, requires a Master’s degree.
- MHS II w/ Variance – B09: $47,061 - $68,641 annually (DOE), non‑exempt (hourly). Must possess a bachelor’s degree and be enrolled or willing to enroll in a Master’s program within 4 months of hire.
- Potential for 10% bilingual increase – must pass a language test.

Provides culturally competent behavioral health treatment to students within the school's district and any alternative schools. Works in accordance with Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) and the mission and values of the agency. Collaborates with school and community partners and assists administration in meeting behavioral health needs of the community.
Responsibilities- Provide clinical services to children and families, including screening, assessment, individual and group therapy, consultation, prevention, education, outreach, and other allowed clinical services.
- Actively participate in joint case planning and coordination with agency employees and relevant contractors. Serve as liaison between clients and other agencies; act as client advocate when appropriate.
- Participate in all group and individual supervision sessions.
- Help students develop skills such as organization, time management, and effective study habits.
- Provide staff with information related to the comprehensive school counseling program.
- Collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational and career planning, and consult effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.
- Gather information, monitor, and report the effectiveness of School Based Counselors at the specific location to the agency.
- Coordinate with agency clinicians and school team members on goals related to students’ academic success.
- Act as a first responder to school crises and lead involved members through coping skills.
- Facilitate drug, alcohol, and nicotine prevention groups for youth, as needed.
- Share and receive appropriate information with teachers, counselors, and administrative staff to collaboratively achieve treatment plan goals.
- Work with other staff and community representatives to initiate new programs, review, evaluate, and revise existing programs as necessary.
- Perform joint case planning and coordination with other community agencies (schools, group homes, police, district attorney’s offices, courts, community clinics, hospitals, etc.).
- Provide behavioral health and addiction education, prevention and information to various interest groups.
- Assist other clinicians in facilitating groups as requested.
- Provide after‑hours emergency services on a 24‑hour rotating basis to adults and children, including telephone consultation and crisis intervention.
- Complete all paperwork professionally, clinically sound, and timely as prescribed by the OARs and other guidelines; ensure all client records are complete and well maintained.
- Attend trainings, meetings, conferences, and other professional development as directed by administration, using information gathered to benefit the agency and its clients.
- Utilize agency software and computer systems to prepare current client records, treatment plans, and reports as required.
- Transport clients as required.
- Administer or assist with urinalysis testing, provide accurate results to clients, and record all pertinent information.
- Report all abuse to the appropriate legal office, complete investigations, and develop safety plans as required.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
