Job Title: Medical Assistant in Medication Assisted Treatment Program (Umatilla County Jail)

Department: Addictions Umatilla County

Reports to: BHRN Program Manager, Medical Director

FLSA: Non-Exempt (1.0 FTE - 40 hours per week) Mon-Fri with an early morning med pass (starting time at 3:00am)

Pay and Bonus: Paygrade: B07 ($23.13 - $33.56 per hour, depending on experience). $5,500 Hiring Bonus (Taxed, 2 staggered payments)

Role Description

The Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Medical Assistant will perform routine administrative and clinical/medical assignments, working primarily in the Umatilla County Jail, with some work performed in home or office settings. The MAT Medical Assistant will assist care providers with the delivery of patient care and treatment, interact with patients both in person while performing simple procedures/treatments and by phone, and perform a wide variety of administrative, clerical, and clinical duties under the direction of the Licensed Medical Personnel (LMP), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Medical Director.

Responsibilities
  • Administrative/Clerical
    • Greeting patients and visitors
    • Answering phones and scheduling appointments
    • Filling out and submitting insurance forms
    • Establishing and maintaining patient charts
    • Medical records filing, updating, and record keeping
    • Other administrative duties as required
  • Clinical
    • Performing morning medication administration rounds
    • Preparing and maintaining examination rooms
    • Preparing patients for examinations
    • Assisting LMP during examinations
    • Scheduling and reporting laboratory work
    • Maintaining inventories and ordering medication
    • Coordinating with LMP to obtain appropriate prescription medication for patients
    • Other clinical duties as required
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, laboratory techniques, clinical procedures and pharmaceutical principles. Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. Customer-service oriented, with active listening, time management, and critical thinking skills. Ability to use medical equipment, computers, and medical/office software.

Education and Experience
  • Minimum requirements:

    High School diploma or GED; graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in healthcare.
  • AAMA certification or AMT registration preferred within one year of hire.
Background Checks and Compliance
  • Criminal background checks as required by ORS and OAR  through .
  • Monthly checks against the OIG and GSA exclusion lists and other federal/state lists; exclusion or sanction leads to termination.
  • Pre-employment drug screen required.
Other Requirements
  • Personal auto insurance and valid driver’s license required for CCS business use; minimum liability coverage limits are $300,000 Bodily Injury and $100,000 Property Damage; CCS insurance is secondary.
  • Physical requirements:

    ability to stand, talk/hear; occasional lifting up to 10 pounds; vision and focus requirements.
Work Environment
  • Hazardous conditions: potential verbal and physical threats from clients; exposure to airborne pathogens.
  • Typical environment: mostly office-based with some field work; noise level mild to moderate.
  • Equipment: common office machines; may drive personal or agency vehicle.
