CRISIS RECOVERY MENTOR PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

UMATILLA COUNTY (Hermiston or Pendleton)

FLSA: FTE 1.0 (40 hours a week)

Pay Grade: B6 ($21.15 - $30.53/hour, experience dependent)

$5,500 Hiring Bonus ± 2 year Commitment, Staggered-taxed Payout

Work as a peer mentor in a team with QMHPs, CADCs, and QMHAs to provide MCIS services in Umatilla County. Coverage hours vary (4‑10 hour shifts weekly). Additional service area coverage, holiday, and OT work may be required.

This position requires a history of substance use and prior recovery services. Candidates will share lived experiences while supporting clients in substance abuse recovery. The role involves care coordination, peer counseling, consultation, rehabilitation, and support functions within the crisis program team.

Supervision Received:
Depending on location, supervised by the Peer Support Supervisor, Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Director or Clinical Manager.

Supervision Exercised:
Does not supervise other employees.

Work with local emergency rooms and community partners to provide care coordination, peer counseling, and support, drawing on common experiences as a peer, validating clients’ experiences and encouraging active participation in recovery.

Prioritize clients presenting at the ER for opioid or Hepatitis C related issues; assist with care coordination, warm handoffs, treatment referrals, and removal of treatment barriers.

Utilize harm reduction strategies, in consultation with supervisor, when appropriate.

Ensure accurate, timely and complete documentation of all clinical documents and subsequent data entry when required.

Help clients and family members identify, understand, and combat stigma and discrimination associated with recovery.

Increase awareness and provide support for client and family participation in consumer self-help services and programs.

Assist the supervisor in organizing and leading rehabilitative individual and group activities.

Participate in clinical meetings to discuss client progress and goals when requested.

Participate in clinical supervision as requested.

Provide support to clients in crisis by spending time with them in their home, emergency room, or office until crisis is resolved or alternative placement is secure.

Provide transportation to clients when clinically recommended to assist access to services.

Work with the crisis team to stabilize clients.

Education and/or

Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent. Must identify as a person with lived experience with substance use.

Experience with utilizing the mental health system and chemical dependency system is preferred.

Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) certification in Oregon or ability to obtain within one year of hire.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Ability to develop positive working relationships with team members, co‑workers, community partners, and the public.

Ability to represent CCS within the community and at state or regional meetings, including public speaking.

Knowledge, understanding and willingness to adhere to confidentiality laws and expectations.

Ability to work independently, without constant strict supervision. Significant work is performed in community, local ERs, and with relevant partners.

Conflict resolution skills.

Ability to be on time and follow supervisor direction.

Good typing skills, basic office software proficiency.

Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats across teams and to the public.
