Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Reports To: Administrator

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing (DON) to lead and oversee all nursing operations within our facility. The DON is responsible for ensuring high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, strong clinical leadership, and effective staff development. This role combines hands-on clinical leadership with strategic oversight and collaboration across departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership and management of the nursing department.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce nursing policies and procedures in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Ensure resident safety, dignity, and high standards of clinical care at all times
  • Mentor nursing staff; conduct performance evaluations and address disciplinary matters as needed
  • Develop and conduct in-service training and ongoing clinical education for nursing staff
  • Coordinate pharmacy services, including medication management and destruction of expired or discontinued medications
  • Serve as a liaison between physicians, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Participate in Quality Assurance (QA), Utilization Review, and Patient Care conferences
  • Oversee MDS coordination and care planning processes
  • Actively participate in state surveys and manage all required follow-up actions
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and communicate updates to the clinical team
  • Provide direct, hands-on resident care as needed
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of resident and employee information
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly and indirectly supervise the ADON/RCM’s and MDS Coordinator and all other nursing staff
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Active RN license in good standing with the State Board of Nursing
  • Minimum of 7 years of nursing management experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and clinical best practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Point Click Care  (PCC)
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, read, talk, and hear for extended periods
  • Frequent use of standard office equipment (computer, phone, copier, etc.)
  • Occasional travel by automobile or airline may be required
  • Healthcare facility environment with low to moderate noise levels
