About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing (DON) to lead and oversee all nursing operations within our facility. The DON is responsible for ensuring high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, strong clinical leadership, and effective staff development. This role combines hands-on clinical leadership with strategic oversight and collaboration across departments.
Key Responsibilities- Provide overall leadership and management of the nursing department.
- Develop, implement, and enforce nursing policies and procedures in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Ensure resident safety, dignity, and high standards of clinical care at all times
- Mentor nursing staff; conduct performance evaluations and address disciplinary matters as needed
- Develop and conduct in-service training and ongoing clinical education for nursing staff
- Coordinate pharmacy services, including medication management and destruction of expired or discontinued medications
- Serve as a liaison between physicians, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members
- Participate in Quality Assurance (QA), Utilization Review, and Patient Care conferences
- Oversee MDS coordination and care planning processes
- Actively participate in state surveys and manage all required follow-up actions
- Stay current on regulatory changes and communicate updates to the clinical team
- Provide direct, hands-on resident care as needed
- Maintain strict confidentiality of resident and employee information
- Directly and indirectly supervise the ADON/RCM’s and MDS Coordinator and all other nursing staff
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Active RN license in good standing with the State Board of Nursing
- Minimum of 7 years of nursing management experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and clinical best practices
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Point Click Care (PCC)
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, read, talk, and hear for extended periods
- Frequent use of standard office equipment (computer, phone, copier, etc.)
- Occasional travel by automobile or airline may be required
- Healthcare facility environment with low to moderate noise levels
- Leadership role with real influence on resident outcomes and staff culture
- Supportive administrative team and interdisciplinary collaboration
