Job Overview

Institution Registered Nurse (Pendleton) – Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution, Pendleton, Oregon. The Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking registered nurses to provide on‑site care within our secure correctional medical unit.

• Provide health care services to individuals living in ODOC correctional facilities.
• Direct patient care: patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, care planning, medication administration, laboratory/medical procedures, and treatment provision in accordance with ODOC policies and evidence‑based standards of care.
• Coordinate patient health care by scheduling on‑site and community‑based services to ensure optimal patient health outcomes.
• Provide comprehensive patient education and serve as a resource for non‑medical staff regarding health care in the correctional setting.
• Advocate for patient care needs to ensure timely delivery and to mitigate impacts of the correctional environment.
• Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care, including medical attention requests, objective data, treatment, evaluation, and education.
• Coordinate nursing care activities with other departments, assume responsibility for unit operations in the absence of management staff, evaluate and monitor medical supplies, manage narcotic, needle and syringe counts, and maintain accurate accounting and secure storage.

• Valid Oregon Registered Professional Nurse license at the time of appointment; preference given to candidates with an unencumbered license.
• Requested general knowledge: professional nursing principles, laws and regulations governing nursing practice, medical terminology, pharmacology, medical ethics, counseling and intervention techniques, disease processes, infection control/communicable disease management, operating personal computers.
• Desired attributes: excellent oral and written communication, social justice orientation, teamwork, health equity focus, ability to perform in a high‑stress environment, harm reduction advocacy.
• Must be able to work any or all seven days of the week, including weekends and any shift of the day (swing, graveyard, day). Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
• Will be required to maintain CJIS clearance and pass a CJIS fingerprint‑based background check.

  5% for bilingual, 4.75% for BSN, 9.5% for MSN, 5% for Lead Worker, swing shift – $3.92/hr, night shift – $5/hr, weekend shift – $5/hr.
