Description

Parole and Probation Officer I:
Provide supervisory and investigative services to adult offenders placed on supervision by releasing authorities to reduce risk of criminal conduct through community supervision, sanctions, counseling, adjustment, rehabilitation and other services to manage offender behavior and elicit positive offender response. The employee will work independently with minimal supervision. Employees are expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment, professionalism and responsibility.

Employees are expected to demonstrate effective participation as outlined within the Umatilla County Community Justice Department Team Rules (attached). They may be required to work weekends or nights.

Parole and Probation Officer II:
This is an advanced level of a two-level classification. The employee in this position will have considerable experience with the supervision, direction, and monitoring of adult offenders. The employee will work independently with minimal supervision. They will supervise those offenders representing an increased risk to reoffend in the community. Employees are expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment, professionalism and responsibility.

They may be required to work weekends or nights. They provide supervisory and investigative services to adult offenders placed on supervision by releasing authorities to reduce risk of criminal conduct through community supervision, sanctions, counseling, adjustment, rehabilitation and other services to manage offender behavior and elicit positive offender response. Employees are expected to demonstrate effective participation as outlined within the Umatilla County Community Corrections Office Team Rules (attached).

Requirements
  • Certification of Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) required within 6 months of hire.
  • Broad knowledge of adult behavior and adjustment problems and related treatment methods, probation practices and philosophy, the laws and regulations governing the operation of adult probation programs and the criminal justice system.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information and perform as a team member with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • This is a safety sensitive position subject to satisfactory results of a pre-employment drug screen.
  • All applicants for this position will be subject to an extensive background check.
  • Must successfully complete a department approved psychological exam including a recommendation for employment from the evaluator. Must possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Parole and Probation Officer I
  • Four years' experience in law enforcement, a social service, rehabilitate, or correctional program with primary responsibility for guiding and/or counseling individuals or groups in the solution of occupational, educational, personal or social problems. Or an associate's degree in social services, such as Mental Health, Human Services, or Social Science and one year's experience. Or a bachelor's degree in behavioral science or a related field with major course work in behavioral science.

    Or two years' direct experience working in a community corrections program with adult offenders.
  • Must have Department of Public Safety Standards and Training basic certification within eighteen months from the date of hire.
Parole and Probation Officer II
  • Must have Department of Public Safety Standards of Training (DPSST) Intermediate Certification and a Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice, behavioral science or related field or an Advanced DPSST Certification.
  • Two years' experience in a social service, rehabilitate, or correctional program with primary responsibility for guiding and/or counseling individuals or groups in the solution of occupational, educational, personal and/or social problems.
Desirable Qualifications

Bi-lingual in English/Spanish.
