Mid-Level Science Teacher (2026/2027 SY)

The Penn Hills School District, located in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh, is currently seeking a Mid-Level Science Teacher for Penn Hills Linton Middle School.

POSITION TITLE: Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in education is required.
  • A valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in Mid-Level Science or Biology (7th-12th) is required.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience is preferred.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, Outlook) and willing to experiment with new technologies.
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and concepts in the area of certification, child growth, developmental patterns, student behavior characteristics, classroom management, lesson design, and educational trends.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of instructional strategies to motivate students in the classroom.
  • Understand Pennsylvania School Law and its application to the educational environment.
  • Knowledge of current educational trends.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, agencies, and staff members.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure, be flexible, and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Self‑motivated with demonstrated initiative and the ability to follow through on tasks.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues while remaining logical and personable.
  • Ability to negotiate and diffuse conflict.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:

A teacher must demonstrate knowledge of a variety of instructional strategies and formative and summative assessments. The purpose of this position is to effectively engage students in the learning process and support their growth in understanding the specified subject matter.

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1) Responds appropriately to emergency situations according to the Safety plan or resolves immediate safety concerns in the classroom and/or directs to appropriate personnel.

2) Plans and prepares daily lessons based on formative assessment data and follows the prescribed curriculum, including a variety of instructional methods tailored to individual learning styles.

3) Contributes to the school system’s effectiveness by identifying short‑term and long‑range issues, providing relevant information, recommending options, and implementing directives.

4) Establishes and adjusts course outlines and objectives by following curriculum guidelines and school system goals, modifying plans based on student diagnostics and assessments.

5) Conveys information to students using clear language, concepts, examples, demonstrations, and teaching aids such as audiovisual equipment and current technology.

6) Assesses student learning by preparing, administering, and scoring tests; reviewing and correcting assignments; eliciting student questions and responses; evaluating application of learning to classroom projects.

7) Monitors student learning results by providing instructional feedback, coaching, counseling, disciplining students, and planning, monitoring, and appraising learning outcomes.

8) Maintains records documenting learning achievements, attendance, and behavior.

9) Guides students’ personal and social development by establishing classroom management rules and procedures.

10) Uses a variety of instructional activities.

11) Matches instruction with the needs and skill levels of individual pupils.

12) Communicates with parents by providing academic information, suggesting resources, addressing concerns, and answering questions.

13) Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

14) Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, establishing networks, and participating in professional societies.

15) Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies efficiently to accomplish educational results.
