Job Description & How to Apply Below
We create smart innovations to meet the mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. We design and manufacture a complete range of transportation systems, from high-speed trains to electric buses and driverless trains, as well as infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility solutions. Joining us means joining a truly global community of more than 75000 people dedicated to solving real-world mobility challenges and achieving international projects with sustainable local impact.
Aerodynamicand thermal-fluid-dynamic (AeroX) Engineer AeroX Engineers
Role Overview
- The AeroX Engineers participate in project/tender development through the application of engineering instructions, guidelines and established internal processes of the AeroX domain.
- They undertake Standard Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations within the frame of the projects using standard tools (STAR-CCM+, START, Trans Tun).
- In the expertise field, they undertake experimental activities on mock-up (wind tunnel, …) or on train.
- They develop advanced simulations methodologies requiring Train System approach covering large domains as Fluid Dynamics, Thermal, Fluid-structure interaction, aero-acoustics, numerical coupling.
- They undertake R&D activities and contribute to the development of the discipline.
Performance Measurement/KPIs:
Quality of work, On-time Delivery and Costs management, team work.
- Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses in design phase using Alstom tools
- Predict Aerodynamic performance (Resistance to Motion, Pressure head pulse, Pressure waves, Crosswind response, etc…) using standard CFD methodologies defined by AeroX Leader
- Predict Aero-thermal and internal aerodynamics performance (Cooling, Heating, Ventilation, ducts pressure drop, climate control in drivers cabin and passenger compartment, etc…)
- Specify aerodynamics requirements at train and sub systems levels
- Prepare the documentation needed by the offers and projects related to aerodynamic performances
- Prepare, organize, participate and analyse testing on wind tunnel or on the train itself to measure performances
- Liaise with AeroX engineers in other Alstom sites to gather relevant experience
- Participate in R&D programs and work packages
- Develop creative and innovative solutions
- Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering degree Bsc/Msc, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in R&D or Railways engineering department with both experimental and numerical skills. The candidate has managed technical project and small technical team
- Good knowledge of at least one leading CFD package (STAR-CCM+, CFX, FLUENT, PowerFLOW, etc…)
- Good knowledge of general fluid mechanics, thermal management, and fluid structure interaction
- Management skills to lead R&D actions with a transversal approach
- Good communication skills, pro-activity, team working, strategic vision
- English conversational/writing/reading advanced level mandatory
- Italian conversational/reading advanced level is preferred
