Systems Engineer, Cloud Computing, Network Engineer
As a Senior Openstack Engineer, you will lead the architectural design, deployment, and optimization of advanced private cloud infrastructures. Building upon our core delivery of High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) platforms, you will serve as a senior technical authority on cloud networking and Open Stack environments. Both HPC and GenAI clusters are deployed as Open Stack clouds and make use of container orchestration with Kubernetes (over Open Stack or on baremetal).
You will tackle complex network topologies, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), and highly available, at-scale Open Stack deployments. You will join the Tech Factory team which is dedicated to technology scouting (hardware & software), development of cluster deployment solutions from infrastructure to applications, and Operational Data Analytics; you will work within the Infrastructure sub-team (lead by the Principal Engineer) and work to integrate cutting‑edge network and hardware technologies into E4’s enterprise and academic offerings.
- Advanced Cloud & Network Architecture: Design, architect, and optimize complex Open Stack environments with a heavy emphasis on advanced networking (Neutron, OVN/OVS, SR-IOV, DPDK) to support high‑throughput HPC and GenAI workloads.
- Infrastructure Leadership: Act as one of the technical reference points for cloud, network, and infrastructure installations, escalating beyond standard deployment to handle custom, high‑performance architectural requirements.
- R&D and Pre‑sales Support: Collaborate with the Presales team for cloud solution design and network architecture, and partner directly with major vendors for the implementation of new solutions in production.
- Automation & IaC Mastery: Develop and maintain advanced Infrastructure as Code (IaC) pipelines using Terraform/Open Tofu and Ansible to automate the lifecycle management of complex network and server infrastructures.
- Cross‑Functional
Collaboration:
Serve as a multi‑relational point of contact across all team members, providing technical training and assisting with the development and production infrastructure. Provide support and assistance to the Support (Support Manager) and Deploy (PMO) teams on complex projects.
- Education: Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, Network Engineering, or a strictly related STEM field.
- Experience: 5+ years of demonstrable, hands‑on engineering experience in cloud architecture, network engineering, and complex systems.
- Nice to Have (Bonus): Familiarity with the High‑Performance Computing (HPC) ecosystem and scientific computation.
- Open Stack & Virtualization: Deep, expert‑level proficiency in Open Stack architecture and administration (specifically Neutron, Nova, and Ironic).
- Advanced Networking: Strong command of network protocols (BGP, OSPF), Spine‑Leaf architectures, and Software‑Defined Networking (SDN).
- Linux & Systems Administration: Expert‑level Linux system administration (Rocky Linux, RHEL, Ubuntu, SLES) and deep knowledge of containerization platforms (Docker, Podman, Singularity).
- Scripting & Programming: Proficiency in automating complex tasks using Bash, Python, or Golang.
- Observability: Advanced implementation of telemetry, alerting, and logging tools (Prometheus, Alert Manager, Grafana, Open Search) for highly distributed networks.
- Container Orchestration: Experience with Kubernetes (bare‑metal and over Open Stack), particularly focusing on deploying and orchestrating GPU‑accelerated workloads is a welcome bonus.
- Technical Leadership: Ability to produce high‑level technical documentation and internal Knowledge Base (KB) materials, and mentor junior staff.
- Problem‑Solving: Elite ability to troubleshoot complex network bottlenecks, hardware integrations, and cloud infrastructure issues.
- Client & Vendor Interaction: Experience working directly with academic researchers, enterprise IT leaders, and hardware vendors.
- Flexibility: Willingness to travel to customer sites for critical project kick‑offs or complex deployments or attend in person training and international events.
- Months 1-2: Audit the current cloud and network architecture, integrate smoothly into the Infrastructure sub‑team, and align with Tech Factory projects and with E4 business.
- Months 3-6: Take definitive technical autonomy of complex Open Stack deployment and troubleshooting, collaborate to development of standardized Infrastructure as Code (IaC) pipelines, help bridging the technical gap seamlessly between teams.
