Industrial Project Architect
At HDR, we are looking for a qualified professional to lead the planning, design, documentation, and construction administration of multiple industrial and commercial building types, including data centers, water treatment facilities, manufacturing plants, and office spaces. The successful candidate will partner with project managers and stakeholders to deliver high‑performance, resilient, and sustainable projects across diverse sectors.
Responsibilities- Be knowledgeable in technical design concepts, code applications, design management skills, digital technologies, and design workflows for industrial‑type facilities.
- Lead owner/client and internal meetings and participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
- Lead project teams with varied levels of experience to successfully complete and deliver construction documents and intermediate milestone deliverables.
- Manage and undertake design activities and produce detailed documents required for construction.
- Coordinate the work of a multidisciplinary team through all phases of a project.
- Review architectural documents for conflicts with all disciplines.
- Perform QA/QC and cross‑discipline technical reviews.
- Write and edit architectural specifications.
- Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders.
- Incorporate agreed‑upon changes into project documents.
- Provide construction observation and contract administration as needed.
- Conduct work sessions at project site with Client Representatives, Project Managers, and other disciplines.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in architectural design for industrial or commercial projects.
- Registered Architect.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule).
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and processes.
- Demonstrated graphic presentation skills.
- Experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills.
- Commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture.
- Master's degree in Architecture.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant prior experience in industrial architecture, such as data centers, water treatment facilities, public utility facilities, operations centers, aerospace, or manufacturing.
- LEED accreditation, with experience and/or interest in sustainable design.
- Experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff.
- Experience facilitating meetings with a range of stakeholders, such as engineers, clients, contractors, subcontractors, AHJs, etc.
- Preference given to candidates currently residing in the Pennington, NJ or Columbus, OH area.

CompensationPennington, NJ: $104,409 – $149,155
Columbus, OH: $90,790 – $129,700
