Principal, Interiors
HDR is seeking a Principal to lead, design and deliver interior architecture projects and drive business growth. The Principal upholds the highest standards of design excellence and innovation, integrating interiors with the firm’s overall strategy.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate across disciplines, markets, and offices to deliver groundbreaking projects.
- Lead project teams, promote design excellence, and engage client leadership and stakeholders.
- Develop new business opportunities, grow professional networks, and pursue new projects.
- Mentor and coach staff, providing leadership and fostering a collaborative culture.
- Lead design, technical, and management objectives for multiple projects in alignment with HDR's Design Philosophy.
- Showcase technical knowledge for document creation and detailing across all project phases.
- Promote sustainable approaches and practices for healthy environments and occupant well‑being.
- Collaborate with team members across disciplines to deliver projects at all scales and complexity.
- Participate in strategic marketing, client interviews, and presentations to win new projects/clients.
- Advocate for project excellence and maintenance of standards.
- Represent HDR in the community, promoting the brand and assisting with recruitment.
- Schedule and sponsor formal and informal design reviews.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture (accredited) or closely related field.
- Active Interior Design Certificate holder or Registered Architect in the country you reside.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in a relevant design‑firm environment.
- Proven ability to lead teams, develop presentations and present to clients.
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of the local and regional market.
- Strong leadership, collaboration, mentoring, motivational/organizational, and people skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to an active participation in HDR's employee‑owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Registration/Licensure at the local level.
- Active member in industry associations.
- Sustainability credentials, accreditations or certificates in the country you reside.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, Rhino, Enscape, Bluebeam.
- Preference for candidates with health, science, higher education or civic experience.

Compensation range: $123,487 – $176,410 (depending on skills, experience, education, and location).
