Job Summary
Under the direction of the After School Site Supervisor and the School‑Age Director, the Child Development Aide will implement a structured, educational, and recreational before and/or after school program for children ages 5‑13. The Aide must work in a mature and sensitive way with children, parents, off‑site school personnel, and fellow staff, consistent with the YMCA philosophy.
EligibilityMust be at least 16 years old; experience is recommended, but not required.

The Child Development Aide must be comfortable with and able to function in a professional demeanor regardless of situations that arise. Must be able to organize the group, support staff, and facilitate emergency procedures. Activities take place in the Hopewell Valley Regional School District cafeterias, playgrounds, indoor gym, and classrooms.
Essential FunctionsAbility to interact and communicate clearly with all program participants, parents, fellow staff, and the public in a positive and sensitive manner. Ability to provide for the physical and emotional needs of children ages 5‑13. Responsible for placement, positioning, and operation of all program areas and for set‑up and break‑down of all program supplies and equipment.
Mental RequirementsMust display maturity to represent the YMCA responsibly. Must be flexible, patient, and able to identify and accommodate changing needs of participants and parents. Must read and interpret instructions and verbally give clear, concise instructions, especially with children.
