This role focuses on building mechanical engineering leadership within HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, shaping infrastructure for the digital age and the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing a design production team to deliver HVAC and Plumbing work through recruitment, staff development, and training.
- Managing workflow and utilization, mentoring and staff development, forecasting and scheduling, quality control, and fostering a team environment.
- Function as a technical lead on projects, coordinating with other disciplines across HDR, and leading the development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations, as well as the review of shop drawings during construction.
- Be directly involved with external clients as well as internal project managers, market sector leads, business group managers, and other leaders throughout HDR.
- Help implement, monitor, and support company policies, especially as delegated by the Mechanical Section Manager.
- Participate in leadership for technical service functions and support the development of HDR services in technical design.
- Assist in the preparation of mechanical proposals including scope development and estimating hours/fee, under the supervision of the Mechanical Section Manager.
- Provide technical expertise in HVAC and Plumbing design across markets including Healthcare, Education and Science, Data Centers, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, and Federal Clients.
- Review work of junior staff.
- Some travel will be expected.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree with a focus in Mechanical Engineering.
- 15 years of experience in mechanical design.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical/HVAC design of buildings and facilities.
- Technical knowledge of mechanical systems design.
- Excellent planning skills.
- Ability to thrive in a team environment.
- Ability to manage, lead and mentor other team members.
- Experience directly supervising multiple staff members.
- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
- Experience designing laboratory, healthcare, and/or data center facilities.
- Experience with Revit.
Preference given to local candidates.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 7 years experience.
- Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Good leadership and organizational skills.
