Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Environmental Engineer or Scientist as part of our contaminated sediment site assessment and remediation practice in the Pennington, New Jersey or Brooklyn, New York office. In this position, you will apply your academic knowledge and practical experience to real-world situations related to contaminated sediment site assessment and remediation practice for a diverse national private and public sector client base, while also learning and expanding the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.
This role is ideal for an early‑career professional interested in developing project coordination and management skills while gaining selective exposure to field activities that support remediation projects.

- Assist in coordination and management of large‑scale sediment remediation projects including project budget tracking, report preparation, meeting coordination, and other project management administrative support tasks
- Conduct fieldwork such as sampling of surface sediment, sediment coring, passive porewater, surface water, soil, and groundwater; oversee driller and contractor activities; conduct construction quality assurance and oversight; and support remediation system O&M
- Evaluate chemical data and contaminant fate & transport
- Analyze data, including reviewing historical documents and preparing maps, tables, and figures
- Work with large, multidisciplinary teams to develop strategies to address complex problems
- Accept instruction from many members of the team to accomplish project objectives
- Coordinate with various entities including client contacts, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies
- Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals

- Training:
Requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring paid for by the firm. Also offers professional development opportunities such as in‑house seminars, webinars, and mentoring to build technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biochemistry, earth science (geology or hydrology), environmental, civil, or chemical engineering (required)
- Prior research experience in contaminated media or remediation technology (preferred)
- Prior internship experience in environmental consulting (preferred)
- Ability to learn new tasks quickly while being receptive to a hands‑on coaching and teaching approach, working collaboratively as part of a team (required)
- Ability to digest and summarize technical language from white papers, reports or regulatory documents (required)
- Technical experience in engineering, geology, geotechnical, environmental, or related disciplines (preferred)
- Relevant field experience, such as sediment sampling, porewater sampling, observation of well installation, soil sampling, groundwater sampling, and/or other field techniques (preferred)
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access, GIS (preferred)
- Regular fieldwork and overnight travel (required)
- Health & safety training, medical monitoring, and client‑driven drug and background testing may be required
- Excellent writing and communication skills (required)
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel (required)
- Minimum Salary: $59,375/year / Maximum Salary: $92,350/year (Pennington, NJ)
- Minimum Salary: $62,070/year / Maximum Salary: $96,545/year (Brooklyn, NY)
