Position Overview

Plans, executes, and evaluates the total nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, and Director. Utilizes the nursing process to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial and cultural diversity. Supervises non‑professional personnel working directly with RN Team Leader to insure optimum patient care. Works under the direction of the leadership team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Capital Health (CH) and facility goals and strategic plans.

Assumes the role of expert for specific assigned surgical service line, and is responsible for monitoring the surgical schedule for equipment and supply needs, preparing for daily case readiness, managing surgeon preference cards. Identifies service issues and communicates and educates appropriate staff.

Education

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Experience

Two years of progressive Perioperative management experience preferred. Three years of OR clinical experience with previous exposure to all applicable surgical specialties.

AHA BLS – Healthcare Provider, Registered Nurse – NJ

CPR Requirements
  • Requires ACLS (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date) if assigned to:
    Critical Care/Intermediate/Telemetry, Emergency Rooms, Pediatrics/Pediatrics Emergency Room, Labor & Delivery, Surgical Services (not to include Perioperative), Interventional Procedures, Observation.
  • Requires NRP (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date) if assigned to:
    Maternity Services
  • Requires PALS (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date) if assigned to:
    Emergency Rooms, Infant Follow‑Up, Surgical Services (only PACU & Same Day Surgery), Pediatrics/Pediatric ED.
Knowledge And Skills

Possesses strong problem solving and decision making skills. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills at an individual as well as team level. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Adjusts quickly and reacts positively to change. Considerable knowledge of principles, practices and current trends in nursing. Possesses good work ethic.

Special Training

Successful completion of all orientation programs and requirements.

Essential Functions
  • Promotes staff development through utilization of appropriate learning resources. Serves as preceptor to mentor and develop nursing employees over time. Functions according to Capital Health (CH) guidelines and prepares staff for specific roles in the event of fire, disaster and cardiac codes.
  • Assists the staff with surgical case preparation, implements set-up plans and delivers or provides patient teaching where indicated.
  • Demonstrates correct and safe technique in the use of the equipment according to the specific product information and CH policies and procedures. Follows proper safety and infection control procedures and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Ensures required Nursing personnel records are maintained by the Educator with regard to education requirements, yearly appraisals and disciplinary.
