Position SummaryThe Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is a field-focused, implementation-driven role responsible for supporting and sustaining the organization’s Environmental, Health & Safety Management Systems across assigned business units and project sites. This position ensures consistent execution, documentation, and verification of EHS programs in alignment with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, applicable regulatory requirements, and client expectations. The EHS Specialist serves as the operational bridge between documented EHS requirements and real-world field execution, with a strong emphasis on audit readiness, safety planning, corrective action closure, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities Safety Planning & Audits- Develop and maintain project- and site-specific safety plans in alignment with company EHS standards, client requirements, and ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 expectations.
- Review and approve Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), permits, and task-level risk assessments prior to work execution.
- Conduct internal EHS audits, site inspections, and compliance assessments across assigned business units.
- Document audit findings, assign corrective actions, and track closure through the corrective action and preventive action (CAPA) process.
- Support client, regulatory, and third-party audits by preparing objective evidence and supporting on-site audit activities.
- Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions through follow-up audits and field verification.
- Support implementation and maintenance of EHS programs aligned with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Verify field implementation of documented procedures, work instructions, and controls.
- Participate in internal audits, gap assessments, and management system verification activities.
- Support maintenance of risk registers, aspect/impact registers, and legal compliance registers.
- Ensure management system documentation and records remain accurate, current, and audit-ready.
- Conduct routine and targeted site inspections to identify hazards, nonconformances, and system gaps.
- Provide practical, risk-based corrective action recommendations.
- Verify implementation of controls and corrective actions at the field level.
- Support task-level planning, permits, and safe-work verification activities.
- Lead or support investigations of incidents, near misses, and nonconformances.
- Apply structured root cause analysis methodologies.
- Document investigation findings and corrective actions clearly and accurately.
- Identify trends and systemic issues for escalation to the Director of EHS.
- Deliver and document EHS training, toolbox talks, and site orientations.
- Support onboarding and role-specific competency verification.
- Ensure training records meet ISO documentation and traceability requirements.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with EHS requirements.
- Review contractor safety plans, JHAs, and permits for alignment with company and client standards.
- Interface professionally with clients on EHS matters when required.
- Provide routine field reports, audit results, and trend analysis.
- Support preparation of management review inputs related to EHS performance and system effectiveness.
- Recommend continuous improvement actions based on audit outcomes and field observations.
- 5+ years of hands‑on EHS experience in audit‑heavy or ISO‑regulated environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 management systems.
- Proven experience developing site‑specific safety plans and conducting internal audits.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general environmental compliance requirements.
- Experience managing corrective actions and audit closures.
- Strong written documentation and reporting skills.
